Automated Systems for Manufacturing Dyes

Client: A Dye Manufacturing Company

Situation

A manufacturing and trading company was wanting to use more automated systems in their manufacturing process. The company is in the business of manufacturing (and trading) dyes for apparel industry. The number of colour shades were large and the manufacturing process was complex. The current setup relied heavily on excel sheets / paper based templates to track stock/production / usage etc.  This led to several errors including in internal costing. As the business was poised for growth including an export led growth, the company required appropriate technology solutions to automate the manufacturing processes. The current ERP system used by the company did not meet the business requirements. It was a 12+ year old ERP system with the company largely doing troubleshooting, rather than functionality upgrade. The company approached Rukanya Consulting at this stage wanting to understand options for way forward.

Task

Rukanya Consulting understood the business environment and the need (what they heard from management and what they saw on the ground). After a full analysis that included a detailed discussion with the current ERP vendor, Rukanya recommended the following approach to the business.

A new ERP solution to be implemented within a 9 month time frame, keeping in mind that the current solution in use was already out dated and could not be upgraded.

Action

A part-time IT Resource to lead the evaluation of ERP solutions and own the implementation of the new solution. The recommendations were discussed with the management and they accepted in full. Rukanya was charged with the responsibility of providing a part-time resource and the ERP evaluation and its implementation.
